Information is as per the 2007-2008 Design for Excellence review.
The classroom dimensions, which average 23 feet by 36 feet long, are more than adequate to accommodate a class of 30 students. Air conditioning and heating are provided throughout the entire facility except for the teachers' workroom, the gym and the cafeteria.
The two kindergarten classrooms are well-organized, self-contained areas. The first classroom has its own toilets, storage rooms, and a patio play area. The second was established in 2006 when we increased from two half-day classes to two full-day classes.
New furniture was provided for that room. Both of these rooms provide a very pleasant environment for these young children. In addition to the regularĀ classrooms, there are additional rooms that are used for special functions that include the following:
Preschool Room - The Preschool room is located in the upper room above the gym lobby. It is a spacious room for the preschoolers. The temporary sink provides warm running water. Three round tables with chairs are used for art projects, snack and gathering. A media table provides opportunities for tactile learning, often filled with water, sand, beans, rice and small manipulative items. The imaginative play area includes a pretend kitchen, table and chairs, dress-up center, dollhouse, train table and an additional shelf for storage. The carpet area is framed by a small bookshelf, a large tree created by the art department, a glider chair, one small shelf and a double folding shelf. Two open shelves, one locking cabinet and a cubby shelf provide much needed storage. The entrance area includes hooks for personal items and a shelf for mailboxes.
Computer Room - This room is the size of a regular classroom (23 feet by 37 feet long) and provides enough space for 30 student workstations.Music Room - The music room is used as a classroom. It is also used by the school's Tone Chime Choir and Cardinal Choir, the school Band, the Parish's Contemporary Choir, the summer music program and the Scouts.
Art Room - This is a regular size classroom and provides adequate space for ten tables that are put end-to-end in twos to make five large tables that accommodate six students each. Two large closets, cabinets, and shelving provide storage. This room also has a sink with running water.
Gym - This area is used for large group assemblies, PE classes and CYO basketball practices and games. It has pullout bleachers on one side and a stage at one end. The stage is moderately equipped for small productions. Enclosed areas in the back of the gym are used for the storage of tables and chairs, as well as by the PTO, the PE program. Exits are clearly marked and lead directly to outside the building.
Library - This is a carpeted room, approximately 22 feet wide by 37 feet long and includes 21 bookcases, 36 inches wide by 64 inches high (5 shelves), eight bookcases 20 inches wide by 43 inches high, four tables that have eight seats each and three rolling bookcases. Classes in library skills are held for each grade. Computerizing the book inventory as well as other library resources is a continuous process. The collection exceeds 7,000. There are two computers in this room for student use in doing research on the internet and for accessing the library catalog.
.
Science Lab - This room serves as the middle school science classroom for the sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, and is also used as a seventh grade homeroom. The science lab was completely renovated in 2010 with new cabinets, countertops, bookshelves, and flooring. In addition, a new sink and eyewash were installed, and electrical outlets were added to improve the utilization of science lab equipment. It also contains an ActivBoard and a brand new display station which allows all students a better view of demonstrations and exhibited lab procedures.
Cafeteria - This room is used primarily for the school lunch program, but is also used to host many Parish functions, including small and medium size meetings. The dining area is used for two simultaneous lunch and playground (weather permitting) periods, covering a total of four lunch sessions. There are 24 tables, each with eight chairs. There is adequate space and lighting, and it conforms to all health and safety standards. New blinds were installed in early 2007.
Kitchen - The kitchen is used daily during the school year for the preparation of hot lunches, conforming to health and safety standards. It contains three commercial stoves, one commercial refrigerator (four compartments) and one steam table that were all purchased in July of 2005. There is one commercial freezer. There is a second freezer (approx. 24 cubic feet) used to store additional food. There are seven work tables, one drink cooler and six sinks.
Clinic - The clinic, located near the school entrance, contains a patient bed, wheelchair, refrigerator, desk, and chairs. It also has its own toilet facility. File and storage cabinets secure the medical records. Medications are stored here, under lock and key.
