Technology at St. Bernadette School

St. Bernadette's first Race For Education fundraiser was a huge success.  Due to the generosity of families and friends of St. Bernadette School, including members of our church community who sent in donations, the school was able to buy 31 new computers for our computer lab.  All have flat screen monitors and Microsoft Office 2007 which the students are enjoying learning and working with.
In addition, we were also able to add another two Activboards, bringing our total to 15 of the interactive whiteboards in the school.

Thank you to all who supported us.  We love our new technology!

St. Bernadette computer classes are hands on, project-oriented classes.  Students learn about computers and how to use them by creating projects using software such as Internet Explorer, Word 2007, Excel 2007, PowerPoint 2007, and MS Paint.  We also tie the computer curriculum to what the students are learning in other classes.  Examples are: creating a colonial newpaper, creating a model of the solar system, history webquests, and creating book covers.  St. Bernadette students begin to learn keyboarding as early as first grade and all fifth through eighth graders receive a full unit on keyboarding each year using Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing software.

Students in fifth grade enjoyed learning about computer networks and creating diagrams of their own networks using the shape and clip art features of Microsoft Word 2007.
